Rotterdam Architecture Month 2025 asked how can we build a sustainable and inclusive city together? Through five unique events, Vereniging Deltametropool contributed to this theme by opening spaces for shared imagination, reflection, and concrete action.

Redrawing Borders, Reimagining Cities with Henk van Houtum

We began the month by redrawing the map, both literally and conceptually. With Lecture & MapLab led by Professor Henk van Houtum, together we challenged conventional cartography, reimagining cities not as isolated dots or rigid borders, but as dynamic networks shaped by people, flows, and shared experiences. It was a powerful reminder that a sustainable and inclusive city begins with how we see and understand the spaces we inhabit. Read more here
Een toekomstklaar grondbeleid
Vereniging Deltametropool + Red&Blue x AIR

In collaboration with AIR we hosted a public dialogue on future-proof land policy, calling attention to the urgent need for a climate-adaptive approach to urban development. With contributions from researchers, planners, and policy advisors, the discussion challenged outdated systems and emphasized co-creation in shaping tomorrow’s urban landscapes. Read more here

Randstad 2040 Strategic Vision

Revisiting the Randstad 2040 vision through a film screening and open discussion, we reflected on the dreams, warnings, and unresolved challenges of 2008. The event sparked critical conversations about governance, infrastructure, and the enduring need for long-term, cross-sector collaboration. Read more here
Taking a stance
From Individual Reflection to Collective Action!

Drawing from collective knowledge, the event invited spatial thinkers to reflect on their own positions and responsibilities. Architects, researchers, and activists exchanged lived realities and called for solidarity in the face of precarity, power imbalances, and systemic pressures. Read more here

Navigating the Future of Port Territories

Navigating the Future of Port Territories explored the future of the Dutch delta through panels, student scenarios, and artistic interventions, we examined how port cities can become sites of resilience, biodiversity, and circular economy. The event highlighted the value of collective imagination, as well as the role of inclusive spatial planning in balancing growth, nature, and justice. Read more here
This June, we didn’t just ask how to make the city together, we practiced it. We crossed disciplines, generations, and ideologies. And in doing so, showed how sustainable and inclusive city is not created by one actor, but through continuous, collective effort.
