water, land and climate risk
Red&Blue at Rotterdam Architecture Month
28 mei 2026
Rotterdam is building. But the ground is subsiding, the rain is getting heavier, and the old logic — that rising land values will pay for it all — no longer holds. This June, during Rotterdam Architecture Month 2026, Red&Blue brings together policymakers, researchers, and practitioners for three sessions that don’t look away from these tensions.
— How do we set climate norms that are fair as well as functional?
— Who bears the cost when land loses value?
— And why are people still buying homes without knowing their flood risk?
We hope to see you there. Join us and register for one or more of the sessions below.

lancering: 4e Red&Blue-rapport
- Klimaatadaptatie
- Waterveiligheid
- Normstelling

Flood risk & the Dutch real estate market
One in three Dutch households can not afford to cover flood damage, yet most of us never check the flood risk before signing a contract. Join us for an evening that puts this tension centre stage: researcher Maged Elsamny presents finding from his upcoming report on climate risk assessment tools that are supposed to help us (buyers, renters, insurers, policy makers, urban planners) make smarter decisions. But, are they actually working Together with experts from the Dutch Green Building Council, Bouwinvest and the municipality, we join Maged Elsamny’s train of thought to discuss why recognising climate risk so rarely leads to action and what needs to change: the tools, the regulation, or the market.

Red&Blue
Red&Blue connects scientists and professionals to create practical solutions for climate challenges in the Dutch delta and beyond.
We bring together experts from different fields to better understand the effects of climate change in the built environment and devise ways to adapt. By working closely with policymakers, businesses, and local communities, we turn climate research into action.
Science is the base of our program, including knowledge about creating a productive science-practice interface. We apply our knowledge to existing neighborhoods and newly planned areas and work on solutions with (inter)national authorities as well as local communities. Through these efforts, we continuously learn and improve how we develop and share our knowledge in this rapidly changing field.
